Membership Eligibility

You are eligible for Rec Center membership if you belong to any of these groups.

Recreation class

A current adjunct faculty member at AU or someone who receives supplemental contracts from the university.

A graduate, or the spouse of a graduate, of an AU undergraduate or graduate academic program. Also included in this category are students enrolled in Ashland Theological Seminary or the College of Nursing and Health Sciences who have completed at least 32 credit hours at the undergraduate level or at least 16 credit hours at the graduate/master’s level.

An employee who works regularly fewer than 20 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits through HR.

High school student taking courses at AU to earn high school and college credits at the same time.

An individual who resides in the community and is at least 18 years of age, but is not eligible for Purple and Gold or alumni membership.

An individual eligible for Gold Membership plus their spouse or child. See “Family” for additional policies.

Spouse and all children who reside in the household of a person who is eligible for membership. Children must be naturally or legally adopted, no older than 26 years of age and claimed as a dependent.

An undergraduate student who is enrolled at AU and taking at least 12 credit hours. Such a student is eligible to purchase a Rec Center membership the semester before classes begin (dependent on payment of fees through the Business Office).

A student who is enrolled in graduate courses at AU.

Undergraduate student enrolled at Ashland University with fewer than 12 credit hours. Students are eligible to purchase the semester before classes begin (dependent on payment of fees through the Business Office)

A person who works a minimum average of 30 hours per week and at least 1,560 hours per year for AU and, therefore, is eligible for full employee benefits.

A person who works, on average, between 20 and 29 hours per week, not exceeding 1,559 hours annually, for AU and is eligible for vacation, holiday and sick time.

A person who has retired from the faculty or staff of AU who belongs to the AU Heritage Club.

A student who is enrolled in graduate courses at Ashland Theological Seminary.

A person who is the spouse of someone who is an AU undergraduate, graduate or seminary student (full- or part-time); or of a current or retired faculty or staff member.

A current member of the AU Board of Trustees.

Purchasing a Membership

All membership applications and liability forms may be completed and memberships purchased in the Recreation & Wellness office or at the Rec Center Customer Service desk.

  • If you are a full- or part-time employee, you can find Gold Membership information (application, liability form and FAQs) on the Employee Portal > FS Info > Employee Wellness. If paying by payroll deduction, you may arrange to pay for this membership online.
